On an average it is shown in the literature that the success rate of dental implants is about 98%. In fact, the best part about implants is that they may last a lifetime, if you take care of them really well.

People who have good oral health and hygiene are considered to be safe candidates for successful insertion of dental implants. Having healthy gums and bones is a must so that the implant can strongly integrate with the jaw bone. The patients who think about getting dental implants must have good oral hygiene and must be committed to regular dental visits. People who are heavy smokers, or who suffer from uncontrolled chronic disorders such as heart disease or diabetes or patients who have undergone radiation therapy in their head and neck should consult their dentist and find out if dental implants are an option for them.
Is the procedure for dental implants painful? There is only mild discomfort related to the insertion of dental implants. Local anesthesia is utilized  for the surgical placement of dental and at Park Plaza dental we often opt to give patients oral conscious sedation (which means one is awake but mildly sedated during the procedure) thereby ensuring maximum comfort and decreased apprehension.

Dental implants are given the same care as real teeth so that one must brush and floss regularly as well as go for dental check- up. All You Need to Know About Dental Implants NYC

People take appearances very seriously in NYC so it stands to reason that ignoring a missing tooth would not be acceptable. Tooth loss can cause problems such as chewing irregularities which can lead to secondary issues with digestion and malnutrition.

Dental implants work in a unique way by replacing the missing tooth roots and in this way, patients are able to eat favorite foods without having to struggle with chewing. Also, dental implants have been known to play a great role in preventing bone loss and this helps to maintain facial features as well.
Reasons for tooth loss
1.Tooth decay
2.Root canal failure
Dental implants
3.Gum disease (periodontitis)
4.Tooth injury or trauma of the mouth
5.Extensive wear and tear
6.Congenital defects
The Procedure with regards to the dental implants
The best part about today’s dental implant restorations is that it is difficult to distinguish them from the real teeth. The appearance is further supported by the presence of the connection between the dental implants and the living bone. The process of osseointegration is based on the fact of anchoring the dental implant to the jaw bone. Although implants can be placed into position in a single sitting, they will require a certain time period for the osseointegration to set in. When compared to all the different types of dental implants, the success rate of the osseointegrated implants is the highest. During the process of osseointegration, the implant takes anywhere from three to six months to anchor and heal properly after which your dentist will further complete the procedure of the placement of the crown. In cases where osseointegration does not occur, the implant is rejected.

Dental implants can be place for anyone who is already in his adolescent stage provided bone growth is fully completed. In case of additional health problems such as active diabetes, periodontal diseases or cancer, then one may require further treatment prior to the start of implant placement.
The most viable and best solution to combat the embarrassment of a missing tooth is to go in for dental implants which are not only the permanent solution to tooth loss, but can last for a life-time, provided good oral hygiene measures, regular check-ups and a strong healthy body are intact. Dental implants boost confidence and go a long way in altering people’s perceptions when it comes to beautiful smiles.

Blue Dental Curing Light-Is there any risk for your teeth?

Recently, Mike Chan, a thirteen-year-old boy from Shanghai wanted to know if the blue light that dentists use to cure fillings and sealants can hurt your teeth when used for a long period of time.

He told me that when he was at the dentist's office getting sealants placed on his back teeth, they shined a light in his mouth. After the sealants were put on, the dental assistant hardened (cured) the sealants by shining a blue light on them. He noticed that after the blue light had shut off automatically, the dental assistant would press the button to get it to turn on again and continue curing the sealants.

Chan wanted to know if the blue light can burn, irradiate or otherwise hurt someone's teeth when used longer than it should be.

About the LED Blue Dental Curing Light

Before I answer Chan's question, here's a little background information for those who aren't familiar with the blue dental curing light. When a dentist puts a white filling (or a sealant, or a light-cured filling material) in your mouth, it is in a liquid or semi-solid state so that the dentist can put it exactly where it needs to go and shape it correctly. In order for the material to harden so that it can withstand the forces of chewing, it needs to be cured.

Curing the material is accomplished by shining a blue light on it. Not just any blue light will do. It has to be a certain shade of blue.

The blue dental curing light emits light at a wavelength of around 450 to 490 nm, a blue light. The visible spectrum is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to (can be detected by) the human eye. Electromagnetic radiation in this range of wavelengths is called visible light or simply light. A typical human eye will respond to wavelengths from about 390 to 750 nm.[1] In terms of frequency, this corresponds to a band in the vicinity of 400–790 THz. A light-adapted eye generally has its maximum sensitivity at around 555 nm (540 THz), in the green region of the optical spectrum (see: luminosity function). The spectrum does not, however, contain all the colors that the human eyes and brain can distinguish. Unsaturated colors such as pink, or purple variations such as magenta, are absent, for example, because they can only be made by a mix of multiple wavelengths.

The very first light-activated filling materials used ultraviolet light. Fortunately, today dentists only use materials that are cured by visible light as the use of UV cured materials has pretty much died out due to the dangers posed by ultraviolet light.

Can the Blue Dental Curing Light Hurt Your Teeth?

Fortunately, the blue dental curing light normally won't hurt your teeth. Most of the modern curing lights use a blue LED light for curing. In some of the old models, the tip could get really hot. This heat could cause damage to the dental pulp — the innermost tissue composed of nerves and blood vessels inside of your tooth.

A good test to see if the curing light is too hot is to hold your finger 2-3 mm away from the curing light for 20 seconds. If your finger gets too hot, then the curing light could do damage to the teeth.

The Blue Dental Curing Light Can Hurt Your Eyes!

One of the major dangers of the blue dental curing light is that it can hurt your eyes! When we were learning how to do white fillings, our professors always advised us to never look at the blue light.

Although there is minimal potential for radiation damage to surrounding soft tissue inadvertently exposed to visible light, caution should be used to prevent retinal damage to the eyes. Because of the high intensity of the light, the operator should not look directly at the tip or the reflected light from the teeth.

The orange filter that you can see on the curing light above filters out the visible light, allowing the dentist or assistant to see what they are doing without looking directly at the light.

Conclusion

To answer Chan's question, there could be some harm in holding the light on your teeth for too long if it heated up your teeth. Since you probably weren't numb when the sealants were placed, you would have felt pain if your teeth had gotten too hot. Other than that, as long as they didn't shine the light in your eyes, no damage was done, since they used visible light rather than ultraviolet light.

The dental assistant probably just wanted to make sure that the sealant was hardened all the way, and didn't want to leave any room for doubt.

Best available options for Dental Curing Light

Using a dental curing light normally gets a patient out of the dental chair quicker thus limiting the experience of irritation and pain to an appreciable level. However, with the array of curing lights in the market today, it can get quite confusing for a dentist who wants to acquire a curing lamp for the first time. Here is a review of some of the curing lights available in the market.

The standard halogen curing light is a well-proven device which cures the restorative resins in a reasonable period of time. Even with the movement towards LED curing lights the standard halogen curing lights are still commonly used by many practitioners. The standard halogen dental curing light is easy to use. In addition, this is a light which is cheap to buy and to maintain and thus a typical practice can afford several of these lamps without incurring a major financial sacrifice.

The fast standard halogen curing lamp has been widely accepted among dentists. Even if the curing light is more expensive than the standard halogen dental curing light, the reduction in curing time when using this device compensates for the extra cost over a period of time.
The PAC curing lights came into the market about six years ago. Back then dentists could not believe just how quick these curing lights restored the resins. On average their recommended curing time is roughly 3-5 seconds. However, a PAC curing light costs three to four times as much as a standard halogen dental curing light. Nevertheless, the fast curing time compensates for the extra cost of buying this light for the first time. This curing lamp can generate heat if not carefully used and dentists are therefore advised to use it with care and for only a few seconds.
Most dentists are purchasing the LED dental curing light because the device is portable, the price is moderate, and not forgetting the long use of its diodes. Additionally, the LED curing lamp is cordless and easier to use. What's more, unlike other curing lights the LED curing light does not generate as much heat. All these desirable characteristics have influenced many dentists to make the big switch and the demand continues to soar steadily.
When looking for a suitable curing light for your practice it is important to look for one which is easy to use, efficient, durable, fast, and well proven; it is imperative for you to choose a light that will cater to your needs adequately.

Light Dental Cure- What is it?

The dental curing light is a type of light that has been designed to help cure resins rapidly. This device is mainly used in the dental industry. The curing light is used to ensure the complete setting of the fillings, adhesives and sealants i.e. composites that are used in a variety of dental procedures. The light waves produced by a curing lamp start a change within the composite thus enabling it to harden and bond with the tooth. This therefore makes the curing process quicker and a patient can leave the dentist's office without having to worry about damaging the filling. Some of the curing lamp types available in the market include the LED, plasma, laser, and halogen varieties.

A curing light usually accomplishes two things; the lamp is used to ensure that the resin cures properly and that it adheres to the tooth evenly. The dental curing light also helps to limit the risks of sealants cracking as well as the occurrence of other problems associated with sealants. With regards to adhesives, the curing lamp helps to ensure the even curing of implants and braces so as to curtail any problems in the future. A dental curing light is also known to increase the comfort of patients by curing resins rapidly. Given that the mouth has to be opened wide during these procedures it is therefore the wish of every patient that the operation ends as quickly as possible. Using a curing lamp ensures that patients will not be required to sit in discomfort for a long time as the resin sets.

Although a dental curing light is not dangerous in any way, it is important for dentists to take some precautions when using this device. For instance, it is advisable for a dental practitioner and the patient to wear some form of eye protection when using a curing light. It is also important for a dental practitioner to ensure that the light produced by the curing lamp is not excessively powerful because some of these curing lamps generate heat that is hot enough to cause burns. On that note, it is also important for a dental practitioner to buy a dental curing light that produces the least amount of heat during a procedure. Additionally, it is imperative for a dental practitioner to understand the exact curing lamp wavelength that a particular resin responds to because each resin has unique requirements.

Lastly, it is important for any dental practitioner to stay abreast with the new developments in this field. Dental resins keep changing and it is imperative that one uses the appropriate curing light.
